Product Description
This hand-painted fève is made of high-fired fine porcelain with a high-gloss glaze and decorated in amazing detail but is not designed for a specific scale. Perfect as dollhouse décor, but originally made for different use.
In the French Epiphany celebration, a fava bean (fève) was baked into a cake, and the lucky guest whose slice contained the prize was crowned King for a day.
Traditions evolved, and the bean became a tiny trinket, made just for that purpose and so treasured by its fortunate recipients that they began to be made just for collectors. Over time, demand grew so that there were fèves as miniature replicas of almost every conceivable object.
The world of French fèves is a very large collection of very small treasures.
