Clay Modified Timothy and Joe Resin Dolls

About This Scene:

by Ken F.
Standing Timothy and Sitting Joe are used on an abalone fishing boat model, the Dirty Dozen, displaying the story of the abalone fishing industry on the Central Coast in the Maritime Museum located in Morro Bay. The diver suit is a combination of copper, brass and Sculpty Clay baked in the oven at 275 degrees for 20 minutes. The only paint used was the Metallic Gold on the tips of the boots. All the other colors are Sculpty clay mixed colors. The figures being polyester based easily withstood the 275 degrees to bake the clay multiple times with no effect on the figures. One discovery I made was that the copper and brass breastplate were baked with the Sculpty to assure a tight fit and the metal easily separated once cooled from the clay. Use an aluminum pan and sealed them in a baking bag, per Sculpty instructions. This will prevent contamination of your oven when baking your modified figures with clay.
