Herndon House

About This Scene:

by Phyllis B.
This is a replica of the house that my great grandfather George Carruth Herndon built in 1865 in Kings Mountain, NC. It took me over 7 years to complete the structure itself around working full time, taking college classes and raising two boys by myself. I built it in honor of my mother, Hazel Herndon Fryer, whose dream it was to own this house. The house was razed in 1965. The replica was donated to the Kings Mountain Historical Museum and was on display for the museum's grand opening May 6, 2000.
